On 4/8/2022 a couple of students and I had an opportunity to help Sister Alexander transport the donations to the bus of Mercy House. In addition to helping her out, I also had the opportunity to donate to Mercy House. Doing this I completed the Felician Core Value, Solitary with the poor. Solidarity with the poor means ensuring the needs of the poor and vulnerable are met through advocacy and action. My classmates and I did a good job of showing this Core Value. I can also say it felt great helping Sister Alexander and giving back to people who need it the most.

From 4/1/2022 to 4/5/2022 I did the Game Changer for the ICHS softball team. Though I sat out because of my injuries, I still wanted to come out and support my team. Doing this I completed the Felician Core Value Respect for Human Dignity. This core value allows us to express our commitment and promote the dignity of all persons. Completing this I showed I was committed to my team. However, it did not feel like community service. Especially, since I was with the people that I love the most.
On 3/19/2022 the ICHS softball team was given the opportunity to clean up around our school grounds. We came together as a team and showed compassion. Compassion is where we have pity and concern for the suffering of others. I think we did very well showing this core value because we understand without cleaning up our school, we can easily form a breeding ground for bad bacteria. As a team for ICHS, and students at ICHS we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to help up our school, and give back to the community. Especially, with all of the things, our school and community give us. I always have an amazing time doing community service, but this time it was special because I got to do it with my second family.
ICHS allows us to dress down to support our school and other foundations. Though it is just 3 dollars, it means the world to a lot of people. From supporting the senior class to wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month all of it supports many people. By doing this we complete many Felician core values. For starters, we have complete compassion. Compassion shows concern for the misfortunate of others. This is a characteristic everyone should learn and express throughout their lives.
Inservice is an amazing opportunity to do service. For my service, I created cards for essential workers, and first responders. Though it is a simple task to do it can impact someone in many ways. First responders and essential workers have very stressful jobs, and I thought it would be a great idea to show them that we support them, and have them know their hard work doesn't go unnoticed. Like my parents, both are essential workers I know how hard jobs can be. Doing this I completed a Felician Core Value, Compassion. Following Felician Core Values is one of the best things to do.
On December 6, 2021, Immaculate Conception had a speaker, Theresa Flores, who spoke to my peers and me about the dangers of Human Trafficking. It was a very scary, but true topic. Her story shook me to my core. By the end of the assembly, we had the opportunity to put stickers on the bar of soaps and make-up wipes with a number to contact victims of Human Trafficking. It never occurred to me what we did was so impactful until Superbowl weekend. It never occurred to me how many people go through this horrible experience until IC Instagram posted about it on their platform. Following the Felician core values, we showed all of them as a school. We should be compassionate, respect human dignity, transformation, solidarity with the poor, and justice and peace. I am forever grateful that the IC student body participated in this project. We took a stand together and gave back to those in need.
My mother and father give me everything that I wish for. I am completely and utterly grateful to have them in my life. So, to show my gratefulness to them I decided to clean up my house. I don't do it as often as I should. Sometimes I leave the cleaning up to them. However, this time I wanted to help. Doing this I showed a Felician core value. Out of the Felician core values, I have shown Compassion. Compassion is characterized by an empathetic consciousness toward others expressed in caring service. It was a great thing to do, especially after all my family gives to me.
A while back during the holidays the freshman class and I participated in the annual toy drive at Immaculate. We sorted the toys, and Mr.Hughes donated the toys to the hospital on behalf of IC. It was great giving to others. My classmates and I accomplished the core values by solidarity with the poor. However, we don't necessarily have to give to the poor. Solidarity with the poor is to ensure the needs of the poor and vulnerable are met through advocacy and action. We as a group took out the time in our days for a great cause. I cannot wait to do something similar again.
Recently I have gone through clothes that don't fit me anymore, or clothes I don't plan on using. Then the thought occurred to me that maybe others need these clothes more than me. So, I bagged up my clothes and got to work. I donated the clothes to the donation box in Garfield. It's very easy and you can definitely do it too!
With Thanksgiving coming up there have been many food drives. My family and I have been donating canned goods to help people who don't have much. It feels great to give back to my community and the people around us. It is truly an eye-opener when giving back to others. We don't realize how much we have until looking at the people who have less.
